Governor Ishaku has successfully deployed the use of hydropower in powering the Highland Tea factory on the Mambilla Plateau, lighting up communities on the plateau, and for irrigation in Taraba State. The state represents best practices in what has been done using renewable energy. The governor will tell us what has been the state’s successes using renewable energy, especially hydropower and how it did it. We will learn from Governor Ishaku about what it takes to be successful using alternative sources of energy. In short, he will give us the state’s Top 5 Tips for being successful in Renewable Energy. Taraba is also the home of the giant, very ambitious Federal Government funded Mambilla Power Project.

BYMR. YURI TSITRINBAUM, CEO of LUMOS NIGERIA. Lumos is a disruptive off-grid solar energy provider focused on emerging markets. The company offers low-cost solar systems to the 1.3 billion people worldwide that are not connected to the grid, using an innovative, pay-as-you-go system in partnership with mobile service providers. In December 2016, Lumos announced a historic deal in the form of a $90 million investment, the largest in the history of the industry. Lumos is today partnered with Nigeria’s largest mobile provider MTN, and the world’s most influential development organisations, having received $50 million of financing from OPIC in order to provide c. 250,000 systems to northern Nigeria, affecting more than 1 million people, as part of former United States President Barak Obama’s Power Africa initiative. Yuri spearheaded Lumos’ entry into the Nigerian market when he was appointed CEO of Lumos Nigeria in 2014. Lumos Nigeria employs over 400 people and provides power to over 4,000 home and small-business consumers, allowing over 200,000 Nigerians enjoy affordable and reliable solar electricity.
